About CSIR

The Canadian Society of Intestinal Research (CSIR) is a registered charity (Charity Registration #108090374RR0001).

Established on October 18, 1976, CSIR is dedicated to funding education and research regarding gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.

Governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, the Society has a large membership that includes patients and medical professionals.

The Society is sustained through membership dues, donations, and from various special events.

Pamphlets
The Society produces a number of up-to-date, easy-to-read, patient information pamphlets for widespread distribution. These pamphlets are provided on request, free of charge, to individuals, healthcare professionals, hospitals, pharmacies, libraries, and various other locations and venues throughout Canada.

Newsletter
A bi-monthly newsletter, The Inside Tract®, a benefit of membership, is published every other month, containing the latest gastrointestinal research, medication reviews, nutrition updates, new technologies, explanations of digestive conditions, healthcare news, and more! Regular features include helpful hints for dealing with various bowel difficulties as well as disease processes. Readership includes a mix of patients, health professionals, and other interested parties.

Membership
Membership with CSIR includes our newsletter, The Inside Tract®, mailed six times per year, access to support groups, educational conferences, and meetings, as well as access to our book and video lending library. Dues are $20 annually.

For its members, CSIR maintains a book reference library and video lending library at its Vancouver location on all areas of the gastrointestinal tract. Many educational presentations have also been audio taped and may be borrowed by members.

Support Groups
CSIR holds a number of support groups for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

These groups offer a forum for patients and medical professionals to provide and exchange information related to the group focus. Members offer support, share experiences and methods of coping. Meetings are open to the public and may include presentations, mini-seminars or videos. A significant portion of each meeting is dedicated to open sharing and discussion.
