We're looking for children from across Canada, between the ages of 10 and 12, who would like a chance to skate with the Edmonton Oiler's Fernando Pisani, during the Score for Colitis and Crohn's national contest.
This fun contest, initiated and sponsored by Schering-Plough Canada, encourages children to submit a one-page essay that describes one of the following:
what it is like to have someone close to them living with the inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC),
what it is like to have Crohn's or ulcerative colitis, or
what it would mean to them to help raise funds for people living with these diseases and to be coached by NHL hockey player Fernando Pisani.
Since being diagnosed with UC four years ago, Fernando Pisani has become a leading advocate for patients with IBD. ‘'This will be a fun day to raise awareness of colitis and Crohn's,'' says Pisani, who, through treatment, has been able to resume his NHL career - a career that had been threatened by his illness.
CONTEST DETAILS The deadline for submission is August 7, 2009 at 6 p.m.
One-page essays are to be submitted by young hockey enthusiasts, or those who enjoy skating, via email at ScoreForColitisandCrohns@sixdegreesmed.com, by fax to 416-643-8572 or by regular mail to Score for Colitis and Crohn's, c/o Six Degrees Medical Consulting, 10 Bay Street, 16th Floor, Toronto, Ontario, M5J 2S3.
Two winners per province will be chosen to attend a half-day hockey clinic in Edmonton, Alberta on Saturday, August 29, 2009, led by Pisani. During the second half of the day, winners will enjoy a friendly game of hockey with their fellow contest winners. Each winner will be accompanied by one parent or guardian. This means round-trip, economy flights for each winner and on of his or her parent/guardian, and one-night accommodation.
Contest winners will be making a difference: for each goal that is scored during the game, Schering-Plough Canada will generously donate $500 to benefit each of four patient associations dedicated to raising public awareness and helping Canadians who suffer from these various gastrointestinal and digestive diseases:
